too.
Get Paid!
Etsy vs. online shopping cart, PayPal vs credit card processor. It’
s hard to decide how to start and how to move to the next level in
order to grow your business. Whether you want to start an online
store, participate in a retail fair, or go wholesale there are plenty
of options for growth. We’ll start from scratch, talk about different
approach and you can decide for yourself the path to take.
PayPal 101
Whether you want to start an online store or want to safely send
and receive money electronically, PayPal is the answer. In this
class we’ll start from scratch and set up an account, request and
transfer money, and talk about different applications, business
and personal, that make money moving easy. Please bring your
checking account and routing numbers and your laptop for hands
on help!
LEGO® Arts
Each student will use all sorts of LEGO® bricks and accessories
as stamp art to create background for our creations, leading up to
our individual Lego Movies written and directed by each student.
We also work together to make a class art piece based on
Picasso’s Cubism. With LEGO® collaboration games as well, who
wouldn’t have fun!
The art of technology
Whether you want to network with other artists, sell some of your
fabulous pieces or just create a venue to showcase your finished
and in progress work, the internet can help. Give and get ideas
about what you can offer and make connections with others in
your field using the computer .There are many different forums:
Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, blogging tools all of which we will
discuss in length and work with you to find the best one(s) to
achieve your goals. We will also explore ways to reach potential
customers with your messages using these venues and more. By
using these low to no-cost tools you can gain significant exposure
for your work. Novices welcome!
Restyled Fashion
If there is stuff in your closet that you don’t like or never want to
wear again? Or maybe you want to take that thrift store find and
turn it into something fab! You can always repurpose it by
restyling it! Cut it up, and stitch it back into something that is
totally you. No sewing experience necessary. Please bring around
5 garments that you’d love to do a makeover on.
Dying Silk Scarves
Using several different dyes students will transform a white 8” x
54” into a colorful work of art. Techniques learned include Shibori,
a method of resist dyeing that includes stitching, clamping and
binding, texture stamping, freezer-paper stencils and mono
prints. No experience necessary for this quick and simple done-
in-one-night project.
Fused Plastic Lunch Bags
FYI- a billion single-use plastic bags are given out for free each
day, 100 billion of which end up in American landfills each year.
Instead of throwing them away, let’s put them to use again as a
fused lunch bag. This beginner project will have your co-workers
asking if you could make them one. Not only will you save money
by taking your own lunch to work but you will also help the landfills
as well.
Wet and Dry Felting
In this class we will explore both major felting techniques, wet and
dry. Using wool roving as a base we will start off learning about
the agitation, water and heat needed to bind the individual fibers
by creating felted beads to construct a gorgeous necklace. Then
using a special needle we will pursue dry felting by making
decorative felted coasters. Once we have the basics we can
move onto a Nuno scarf embellished with hand or machine
stitching. Lastly students will have an independently guided
choice project incorporating all techniques covered! Materials will
be provided
Free Form Embroidery
The fundamental basic technique of stitches is essential to
embellishing with hand embroidery. We will cover transfer of
patterns, original pattern design and of course all types of
different stitches like the chain stitch, buttonhole or blanket stitch,
running stitch, satin stitch and cross stitch. Incorporating other
materials such as pearls, beads, quills, and sequins will be
covered as well.
Leaves and Fibers
Inspired by nature! Use organic dyes and earth-friendly paints to
add color to fabrics made from natural fibers. Print and design
your fabric using textures from recycled materials. Stitch an earth-
friendly tote and other accessories, embellished with reclaimed
odds and ends. Creative, fun and earth-friendly ideas to take
home.
