Kimberly Oedekoven teaches students to create a pleasing personal composition using the elements of art. Art concepts covered include: line, form, space, shape, scale, texture, and color. Students can create original works of art that are theme-driven or based on a personal narrative. Individual quilts or a class quilt can be completed using simple techniques and basic materials. Schedule Request Fused Plastic Lunch Bags/Messenger Bags Type: Workshop Grades: 3+ Note: Project takes 6-7 hours to complete Materials fee: to be determined 100 billion plastic bags end up in landfillseach year. Instead of throwing them away, let’s put them to use again as a fused plastic messenger bag. This beginner project will have your friends asking if you could make them one too. We’ll teach you have to make your own plastic fabric and how to sew those pieces together. Not only will you look stylin’ but you will also help the landfills! Fabric Book Type: Workshop Grades: K-2 Note: Project takes 5 hours to complete Materials fee: to be determined We will create a fabric book with decoratively sewn and embellished pages using fabric inks, fabric markers, beads, buttons and ribbon. Plus learn some cutting edge techniques like sun painting and freezer paper stencils. Students will paint, cut, embellish and design their very own original and personal piece of fiber art! Restyled Fashion Type: Workshop Grades: 7+ Note: Project takes 5-7 hours to complete Materials fee: to be determined Is there is stuff in your closet that you don’t like or never want to wear again? Or maybe you want to take that Thrift Shop find and turn it into something fab! You can always repurpose it by restyling it! Cut it up, and stitch it back into something that is totally you. No sewing experience necessary. No patterns will be used, just our imagination. Please bring 2 garments that you’ d love to do a makeover on. Recycled Materials, Again! Type: Workshop Grades: 3+ Note: Project takes 5-7 hours to complete Materials fee: to be determined Open your eyes to the world of recycled items. We will learn how to change mundane, everyday items using heat, moisture, paints and dyes, discharge and deconstruction techniques into useable, beautiful objects you can use again. I’ll have plenty of finished examples on hand for your inspiration. Ever wonder what to do with that Pop-Tart Box instead of recycling it. Come find out. Warning: This is an experimenting class.
